Handmade Lampwork Glass Beads and Jewelry by Sue Power

Home

Welcome to Glass Affair

I am a glass artist who has been having an ongoing relationship with glass for many years.  I started with stained glass construction – windows, lampshades etc.  However, for the past ten years I have been in love with lampwork – a type of glasswork where a torch is used to melt glass. The art is also known as flameworking or torchworking.

All the beads and jewelry shown here are handmade by me in my home studio in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada. I use a propane and oxygen fueled torch to melt glass. Once the glass is molten, I form and shape it by using tools, gravity and hand movements. I use glass that is imported from Italy as well as specialty glass that is made in North America. I often add fine silver, enamels ,and other metals to achieve a wide variety of interesting effects. Every bead is immediately annealed in a digitally controlled kiln to ensure lasting strength and durability.

Visit my Gallery to find examples of unique focal beads that I often use to make one of a kind pendants. You will also find a wide range of bead sets that can be transformed into stunning artisan quality one of a kind wearable art. As I create new pieces I will offer them for purchase Here. If you find a bead that you just love, but do not know how to create a beautiful piece of jewelry – please contact me, and I will be pleased to work with you to create a perfect work of art for you or someone special!

Be sure to check my Events page for a listing of upcoming shows. You can also follow my Blog for regular updates on new beads and jewelry, upcoming shows, and other glassy things!
